convene

(v) - If a group of people come together, like for a formal meeting, they convene.
  • Synonyms: meet, assemble, come together, gather, rally, unite
  • Antonyms: split up, go home
  • Etymology: Early 15th Century Latin, from com- meaning "with, together" + venire meaning "to come" (which is where we get the word venue)
  • Morphology: convience - n
  • Example: Your new inquiry groups will convene today to discuss the project for unit 3.

Before that meeting, our entire class will convene at the front of the room for an Order of Operations review and challenge!
