distort

(v) - If you distort something, you change the appearance, sound, or shape of it so that it is strange or unclear.
  • Synonyms: deform, bend, twist, mangle, ruin
  • Antonyms: beautify, straighten, improve
  • Etymology:1580s Latin, from dis- meaning "not, away from" + torquere meaning "to twist
  • Morphology: distortion - n, distorted - adj, v
  • Example: Map distortion occurs when you try to take a 3-dimensional surface and turn it into a 2-dimensional representation.
Why would anyone distort these adorable frog bodies?!
