deviate

(v.) - To deviate is to to change what you are doing so that you are not following an expected plan, idea, or type of behavior. When you deviate from something, you stray away from the normal path of it.

Synonyms: differ, drift, vary, stray, turn
Antonyms: keep, stay
Etymology: 1630s Latin, from phrase de via, from de meaning "off" + via meaning "way"
Morphology: deviation - n, deviant - adj
Example: This week, we will deviate from our normal reading routine in order to wrap up our first unit.
